Bowleaze Cove

A pebbly beach backed by cliffs. Sand is exposed when the tide goes out. There is a slipway used by Jetskiers and the water is ‘zoned’ to keep watersports enthusiasts and swimmers apart.

Best features: A safe, family beach.

Local facilities & Shops: There is a café, shops selling souvenirs, buckets and spades, etc, and a family pub on Bowleaze Coveway, the road running down to the bay.

Great for kids: The water is safe and shallow and there is a large expanse of grass above the beach for playing on. There is also an amusement arcade and funfair.

How far are the loos? In the café, also in the amusement arcade.

Parking: You can park on the road and there is also ample pay car parking.

Public transport: Regular buses from Weymouth (an open-topped bus in the summer).

How about pets? Dogs are allowed but there are no dog bins.

Other points of interest: The ruins of a Roman temple at Jordan Hill, the top of the hill just off Bowleaze Coveway.

Fancy that: The cliffs behind Bowleaze are part of the South West Coast Path, Britain’s longest nature trail.
